Football

Football, commonly referred to as soccer in some countries, is a team sport played between two teams of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by getting a spherical ball into the opposing team’s net. The game is played on a rectangular field known as a pitch, with a goal at each end. Players primarily use their feet to hit the ball, although they can use any part of their body except their hands and arms; only the goalkeeper is allowed to handle the ball within a designated area known as the penalty area.

Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, established by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). It is one of the most popular sports worldwide, with millions of fans and participants at amateur and professional levels. Major international competitions, such as the FIFA World Cup and continental tournaments, showcase the sport on a global stage, promoting international competition and cultural exchange among nations. The sport emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and skill, making it a thrilling game for players and spectators alike.
